Hello everyone,

I am currently considering expanding my Ikea Platsa system and have noticed that there are now many different extensions and add-ons available. However, I haven’t found a clear or official overview of the most commonly used PLATSA extensions, such as modules, doors, drawers, or additional shelves.

Does anyone have a summary or know reliable sources that focus specifically on the common extensions of the PLATSA system? I’m especially interested in not only the standard parts but also practical additions that have proven useful in everyday use.

I would appreciate your experiences and tips!

Hello Gustavo,

For orientation: The PLATSA system is modular, which allows for numerous extensions. Here is an overview of the commonly used extensions:

- Different cabinet depths (35 cm (14 inches) and 56 cm (22 inches)) for various space requirements
- Door options made of wood or glass, often used: hinged doors and sliding doors
- Drawer inserts, some with soft-close function
- Special corner modules to optimize space
- Interior fittings such as shelves and clothes rails

Additionally, many users pay attention to suitable fittings and a mix of open and closed modules for greater flexibility.

I often see that the combination of different depths and door types is especially popular. This helps to customize the system to fit the room individually. If you have more specific questions about any extensions, feel free to ask!

This is already a good starting point. Additionally, I would like to mention that the frequently used extensions also depend on the intended use. For example, those using PLATSA as a wardrobe tend to choose:

- Sliding doors to save space
- Extra clothes rails and shelves
- Interior lighting, which is often underestimated

For storage in an office or living room, other modules such as open shelves and drawer units are more relevant.

As far as I know, there is no official comprehensive overview from Ikea regarding frequency, but product brochures and user reports in various forums provide useful insights.

I recommend thoroughly checking the dimensional specifications before planning. For extensions, the measurements of the modules are especially important.

Door and drawer options are the most popular – particularly those with a soft-close mechanism.

There is no real "overview" in the form of a list of the most purchased extensions.

Thank you for the clarification; that was the main point for me as well. I’m looking for something definitive or at least a reliable guide on which extensions are most popular among users, not just what Ikea itself offers.

Maybe it would be helpful if someone with a lot of experience could share which additions are actually the most commonly used in practice. Besides the mentioned doors and shelves, are there any particular combinations or accessories that have proven effective?

I’m open to any advice beyond the official information.

I can share a bit from my own collection: The great thing about PLATSA is exactly its modularity. For example, I built a basic frame using the standard units and over time found the following additions especially practical:

- The “internal organization” with drawer inserts, because keeping things tidy becomes so much easier
- Doors with push-to-open mechanism, ideal if you want to avoid handles
- Corner modules, real space-savers, especially when you want to make use of niches
- And something many underestimate: LED lighting, small and flexible to install, which is invaluable in darker rooms

Maybe this helps as a practical list. For me, PLATSA is like a playground for creative space design, which makes the system so exciting. 😉
