Is there a detailed and reliable guide for wall mounting the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe?

I recently purchased an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and plan to securely attach it to the wall to ensure stability and safety. Unfortunately, the included assembly instructions only provide a very general recommendation for wall mounting, without addressing different wall types or explaining specific installation steps.

I am particularly interested in whether IKEA offers a separate guide for this model that, for example, details the use of the included wall plugs and screws, or if there are generally established procedures for assembly that you would recommend. I definitely want to avoid using the wrong mounting hardware or installing the wardrobe in an unsafe way.

Has anyone had experience with mounting the Brimnes on the wall, perhaps with tips for different wall types such as concrete, drywall (plasterboard), or brick? Is there possibly an online resource or a PDF from IKEA with a more detailed guide that I might have missed?

I attached my Brimnes wardrobe to a concrete wall. The included screws and wall plugs are generally sufficient as long as the wall is stable.

If you have a drywall (plasterboard) wall, you should use additional cavity anchors, which are available at hardware stores. IKEA itself does not provide a separate guide beyond the assembly instructions.

In general, regarding wall mounting the Brimnes wardrobe, IKEA provides its general instructions for securing furniture against tipping in the standard assembly manual, but does not publish a separate detailed guide specifically for the Brimnes model. However, this is not too problematic, as the mounting mechanism is fairly standardized.

- First, it is important to determine the wall type: for concrete or brick walls, the included plugs and screws can usually be used without concern.
- For drywall or plasterboard walls, however, special cavity anchors or metal expansion anchors are essential.
- The base of the wardrobe should be flush against the wall before you install the mounting anchors.
- Make sure the mounting height is optimal to ensure tipping resistance; the assembly instructions usually specify a minimum distance from the floor.

In my experience, the biggest risk is choosing plugs and screws that are not appropriate for the wall, resulting in a connection that is too weak. If you like, I can put together a small checklist to guide you step by step in selecting the right mounting hardware. What type of wall do you have at home?

Thank you very much for this advice; it aligns with my own research so far. My wall is an older brick wall with a relatively rough plaster surface.

That would be great. Please do, as I’m unsure whether the anchors that came with the cabinet are sufficient or if I should purchase other materials. I would also appreciate recommendations on screw lengths and distances from the wall.

Sure, here is a structured checklist for securely mounting the IKEA Brimnes to a brick wall:

- First, carefully inspect the wall to ensure there are no cracks or loose plaster in the drilling area.
- Use a hammer drill with a drill bit diameter suitable for the supplied wall plugs (usually 6-8 mm (0.24-0.31 inches)).
- The included nylon wall plugs are usually sufficient for solid bricks, provided the hole is clean and drilled to the correct depth.
- For the screws, it is recommended to use a length of at least 50 mm (2 inches) so they hold firmly in the wall plug and wall; the screw should be anchored at least 40 mm (1.6 inches) inside the wall.
- The mounting holes on the cabinet should allow for slight adjustment before attaching, to compensate for any wall irregularities.
- The cabinet is fixed to the wall using the hanging bracket; tighten it securely but avoid overtightening to prevent the wood from cracking.
- After installation, carefully apply weight and check whether the furniture wobbles or stands stable.

Finally: if there is any doubt, consider using heavy-duty anchors with metal expansion plugs instead. These provide greater security than standard plastic plugs.

Hope this helps. If you need more details on screw sizes or mounting posts, feel free to ask.
