Hello everyone, I’m currently considering how to upgrade my IKEA Besta sideboard with glass fronts. Is there a clear and reliable guide or a proven method to replace the classic doors on Besta units with glass fronts? I imagine that the functionality should be maintained, meaning no issues during installation, and that the appearance should look high-quality. Does anyone have experience or tips on the best way to approach this, especially regarding the mounting and selection of suitable glass fronts? I’d appreciate any advice, whether it’s a DIY tip or a reference to specific accessories.

For third-party materials like glass, it’s a bit of a DIY task where you need to use standard doors as a reference.
For anyone who feels a bit uncertain, I can say: it’s worth taking the assembly slowly and with plenty of patience. @neomarion, I completely understand that it’s not just about the appearance but also that functionality is important. What helped me was first laying out and prefabricating all the parts before starting the actual assembly. I was also initially concerned about safety, but with a few silicone strips and the right screws, everything now works perfectly.
I would like to give a precise recommendation here: If you own an original Besta frame model, it is best to use glass fronts specifically designed for this model. If you prefer customized solutions, be sure that the glass thickness does not exceed 4 mm (0.16 inches) to maintain the stability of the doors. Using plastic gaskets between the glass and the frame is advisable to prevent stress. Additionally, stainless steel hinge fittings are more suitable than simple plastic brackets, especially for long-term use.
