Hello everyone,

I am considering adding a soft-close function to my IKEA Brimnes wardrobe because the doors and drawers sometimes close quite loudly and roughly. My specific question is: Is there a clear, well-documented guide or any user experiences on retrofitting soft-close specifically for the BRIMNES furniture series?

I have already done some research, but most instructions either refer to other furniture series or are very general. It would be great if someone knows the exact steps or can confirm from experience how and with which materials or mechanisms the retrofit works—whether dampers, special hinges, or other solutions.

I would also appreciate any tips on adjustments, tools, or dos and don’ts. My goal is to modify the furniture so that the function is reliable, durable, and as easy to install as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Hello porfiriosb,

Yes, there are retrofit kits with soft-close dampers available for BRIMNES. These often come with small plates and screws for installation. The assembly is usually similar to other IKEA cabinets: placing the dampers into the hinges or behind the drawer bottoms.

Make sure the drill holes match, or if necessary, pre-drill them. There is no detailed official instruction from IKEA, but YouTube often provides useful visual guides.

Hey porfiriosb – that’s a great idea to equip your BRIMNES with soft-close! 😊 Most people have done this and report a significant increase in comfort!

I’ve converted my own drawers myself and can tell you it’s definitely worth it. Be prepared to spend some time – patience and calm are your best friends when retrofitting!

Look for a set with good reviews; they often don’t cost much and are quite easy to install thanks to the included screws and instructions. If you don’t want to do a lot of screwing, I recommend dampers that can be installed with minimal modifications.

You can do it!

Hello porfiriosb,

I would like to add a few additional notes regarding retrofitting soft-close mechanisms on IKEA BRIMNES furniture:

- Often, the doors on BRIMNES are mounted with simple hinges; therefore, the soft-close retrofit is not integrated directly into the hinge but comes as external dampers attached to the inside of the cabinet or the doors.
- The main challenge is usually finding the correct mounting points since BRIMNES furniture does not come with soft-close features as standard.
- It is important to carefully measure the dimensions before installation to ensure the damper works properly when closing and the door or drawer does not get stuck or close unevenly.
- Many users reinforce the structure before installation with additional small screws because the material in BRIMNES furniture is not always very thick.

If you find the installation difficult, it is also helpful to look for user experiences in forums by searching specifically for “BRIMNES soft-close retrofit.”

I wish you good luck and feel free to ask if you need more details!
