zeki52Hello everyone,
I have a question and hope to benefit from your experience and knowledge. I own the IKEA BESTÅ storage system and have noticed that when moving or slightly adjusting the furniture, scratches often appear on the floor. This is especially frustrating with parquet or sensitive laminate flooring. Now I'm considering whether there is a practical and effective way to equip the feet or undersides of the BESTÅ units with felt pads to protect the floor.
In your opinion, is there a good idea or proven method for attaching felt pads specifically to IKEA BESTÅ? It is important that the pads stay firmly in place, do not slip, and do not deform under the weight. Are there any suitable products on the market or DIY solutions you would recommend?
I look forward to your suggestions and experiences!

Stick felt pads in the appropriate size from the hardware store to the underside. This is basically correct and a common solution. However, you should pay attention to the maximum load capacity of the felt pads, as the BESTÅ system can weigh between 40 and 60 kg (88 and 132 lbs) per module. I recommend felt pads with acrylic or polyurethane adhesive, as these are more durable and less likely to come off with frequent use.
- Clean and degrease the surface before applying
- For more stability with deeper feet, consider using several smaller pads
- Alternatively, there are felt pads with screw or clip fastenings to prevent the cushions from slipping
It is also advisable to consider the type of flooring: parquet can be more sensitive than tiles, so denser felt is recommended to better distribute the pressure.

I personally use felt pads with plastic dowels for my BESTÅ furniture, which click into the existing drilled holes of the legs. This ensures a very secure fit and they are almost invisible. It prevents the annoying slipping that sometimes occurs with adhesive pads.
Additionally, if the furniture is frequently rearranged, it is important to ensure that the cushions are durable and do not fray easily. It is worth investing in dense, high-quality felt fabrics.
A DIY solution using a thick strip of felt cut to size and attached with double-sided tape can help initially, but it is often less durable and does not look as professional.
I equipped my BESTÅ with self-adhesive felt pads and am quite happy with it because the warping of the furniture has much less impact on the floor. 😊
One tip: Check the felt pads every few months and replace them if needed, as they get thinner over time due to abrasion and lose their cushioning effect.
If you prefer extra comfort, you can also use felt pads with a rubber backing – they hardly slip and provide some slip resistance as well. So, it’s basically a combination of felt for protecting the furniture and rubber for grip.
This keeps the floor scratch-free and the furniture stable.
