Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble an Ikea Platsa wardrobe and am looking for an app that supports the assembly process. Is there an application that, besides the basic assembly instructions, also offers helpful features like a 3D view, step-by-step guidance, tool lists, or customization options? I am mainly interested in an app that simplifies the assembly and minimizes potential errors. Does anyone have experience or recommendations?

I find this topic really interesting because Platsa is truly versatile.

In my opinion, an app that supports assembly should not only display the instructions but also address individual specific situations. For example, if you attach shelves to the side or use special parts.

Of course, this is currently difficult to implement because Ikea keeps the system open. On the other hand, with a bit of fun and creativity, you can keep the instructions open on a tablet next to the components and use zoom or notes.

Maybe in the future: an app with augmented reality that shows you the individual parts directly in the assembly space. That would be cool, wouldn’t it? For now, unfortunately, we can only rely on traditional methods.

That could indeed be the future. Regarding assembly aids, I currently recommend a combination of:

- Ikea instructions (PDF or Ikea app)
- YouTube videos where real users share their experiences
- A checklist you create yourself: tools, screws, components – so everything is ready before you start

Practical tips:
- Sort components before starting
- Ideally, organize screws in small kitchen or craft boxes
- Follow the assembly steps one by one and avoid doing too much at once

This way, the assembly remains clear and you minimize mistakes.

Direct answer: No, there is no specific app for assembling the PLATSA with integrated 3D instructions or part recognition.

Ikea manuals and videos are the best option.

A brief addition: Some apps for furniture assembly in general offer tool-assisted checklists, but none specifically for PLATSA. Therefore, it’s better to rely on Ikea’s own resources.

Use the Ikea app for the official instructions

Thanks, that’s a good tip. I haven’t checked the Ikea app in detail yet. Does anyone know if the instructions there are better or more interactive than the PDF version I downloaded from the Ikea website?

I’m also interested in any experiences with the best way to sort the screws or helpful tips for handling the components, especially with larger PLATSA units.

For sorting the screws, I recommend small screw containers or boxes that you number according to the instructions. This helps prevent confusion.

Regarding the components: When assembling larger PLATSA units, make sure you have enough space to lay out and assemble them. Work through the parts one at a time, rather than stacking them.

About the Ikea app: It provides a simpler display of the instruction steps on your smartphone but is not an interactive 3D app. Still, it’s better than the PDF because it’s easier to navigate and includes search functions.

Finally, a tip: Document critical steps with photos in case you need to make adjustments later.
