Hello everyone, I have a question that I haven’t been able to find a clear answer to so far: Is there a way to make IKEA Brimnes furniture quieter? Specifically, it’s about the drawers and doors of my BRIMNES wardrobe, which squeak and rattle a lot when opened and closed. I have already tried tightening the screws and using silicone spray, but that only helped to a limited extent. I’m especially interested in whether there are mechanical or simple DIY solutions that can sustainably reduce or even completely eliminate the noise without having to take the furniture apart or make major modifications. Maybe someone here has had similar experiences or knows proven tips that go beyond the usual tightening and lubricating.

Nathanaelk10 Jul 2024 09:41The noise issue with BRIMNES furniture often comes from the choice of materials and construction: the combination of particleboard, fittings used, and the lack of damping elements causes the described sounds. If you want to reduce the noise, I recommend the following steps: - First, check that all screws and connectors are fully tightened, as loose parts can rattle. - Use appropriate plastic dampers or silicone bumpers for drawers and doors, which are commonly available for cabinet doors at hardware stores. These can be easily attached to hinges or frames. - Additionally, you can lubricate moving metal parts like hinges and drawer slides with a PTFE-based lubricant, which stays smooth longer than regular silicone spray. - A trick for drawers is to apply thin felt strips or foam rubber at contact points inside – this effectively cushions impacts. If you like, you can also share which components are noisy in your case. Then I can provide more targeted advice.

I think you just have to accept that BRIMNES furniture doesn’t offer the high-end quality you might hope for at such an affordable price. Everyone tries to sneak in some “luxury” with rubber buffers, lubricants, or DIY modifications. To be honest, that only helps to a certain extent. You either pay more or live with the noise. That’s not a perfect solution either, but constantly trying to improve it can get quite frustrating.

For sustainable and effective noise reduction in IKEA BRIMNES furniture, I recommend the following structured approach: 1. Systematically check all movable parts to ensure screws are securely tightened, especially on hinges and drawer runners. 2. Replace the original plastic bumpers with higher-quality felt or rubber-like dampers to minimize vibrations. 3. Use PTFE-based lubricants on metal sliding surfaces and hinges to reduce friction noise. 4. Place thin foam rubber or felt pads directly at contact points inside drawers to cushion impacts. 5. If possible, line the interior surfaces of the furniture with felt-like materials to prevent resonance. This method helps prevent mechanical wear and achieves significant noise reduction without structural modifications.
Hey, I had the same problem and can only say: It’s worth it! 🙂
Back then, I bought simple rubber drawer stoppers and attached them to the inside corners. After that, the noise became much more pleasant. Also, a little tip: Sometimes it helps if you don’t slam the doors completely shut but close them more gently. Maybe you’ll enjoy experimenting a bit—you’ll definitely find your personal solution!
