Is there a way to make Ikea Besta doors close magnetically? I have a Besta unit with doors that do not come with magnetic catches by default, and I am looking for a practical solution to ensure the doors stay closed on their own and securely, without modifying the furniture or using complicated constructions. I am especially interested in recommended magnetic catch solutions that are easy to install, visually unobtrusive, and reliable. Additionally, I would like to know what to consider during installation, particularly regarding the strength of the magnets, whether to attach them on the surface or recessed into the door, and their durability. Experiences and tips on suitable types of magnets and their mounting are also very welcome.

My Besta doors are about 38 cm (15 inches) wide and 64 cm (25 inches) high, made from a 16 mm (5/8 inch) thick particleboard base with a melamine coating. This information is helpful. The material thickness allows for attaching magnets with screws, provided they are screwed in at the right spot.
I recommend mounting the magnets on the inside, either at the top or on the side near the door edge, to ensure both strong holding power and minimal visibility.
Please note:
- Pre-drilling is essential to avoid damaging the material
- Use small countersunk screws that sit flush
- Choose magnets with a holding force between 1 and 2 kg (2.2 to 4.4 lbs)
Additionally, rubber bumpers can be installed on the hinges to prevent the door from closing too quickly or loudly.
