Is there a way to make Ikea Besta doors close magnetically? I have a Besta unit with doors that do not come with magnetic catches by default, and I am looking for a practical solution to ensure the doors stay closed on their own and securely, without modifying the furniture or using complicated constructions. I am especially interested in recommended magnetic catch solutions that are easy to install, visually unobtrusive, and reliable. Additionally, I would like to know what to consider during installation, particularly regarding the strength of the magnets, whether to attach them on the surface or recessed into the door, and their durability. Experiences and tips on suitable types of magnets and their mounting are also very welcome.

Magnetic latches are feasible.

- Use neodymium cup magnets
- Secure with screws, if possible
- Alternatively, use strong adhesives
- Align the position perfectly

This ensures the doors close reliably.

For Besta doors, small neodymium magnets with a diameter of about 10mm (0.4 inches) are especially suitable.

Adhesive usually only holds for a short time; screws are more reliable.

Storing with double-sided tape is not a good idea, as it tends to come loose quickly.

This information is helpful. The material thickness allows for attaching magnets with screws, provided they are screwed in at the right spot.

Please note:

My recommendation:

- Neodymium magnets with a diameter of about 12 mm (0.5 inches)
- Screw mounting for long-lasting durability
- Glue the magnet inside the door only if subjected to low stress

This way, the latch fits well and holds securely for a long time.
