Hilal34Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding the assembly of IKEA Besta furniture. Is there a way to put the furniture together so that no screws or fasteners are visible from the outside? I want to achieve a particularly clean and minimalist look without the screws that are often visible on edges or surfaces.
I am especially interested in practical solutions that work with the original IKEA components or reasonable modifications that can be done relatively easily without complex milling work or expensive special parts. I look forward to tips and advice that meet these requirements. Thanks in advance!

Basically, IKEA BESTA does not offer a factory option to assemble the furniture completely without visible screws, as the system focuses primarily on easy assembly. However, the visibility of screws can be minimized with a few measures: - Using cover caps for the holes, which IKEA often sells separately. - Installing back panels without screws, for example by snapping them into grooves or using cabinet rails if these are provided. - Placing screws on interior edges so they are not visible from the outside. Completely concealed fastening without modification is, however, limited in options.

My tip: Tape doesn’t last forever, but if you want a minimalist look without holes, you can try using magnetic connections. Yes, IKEA didn’t design it for that, but with small, invisibly placed magnets inside, you can make the doors slightly ‘float.’ Not super stable in every situation, but if it’s about appearance, it’s a nice idea! 😉
To answer the main question: IKEA BESTA furniture typically uses screws at the edges and joints, which also contribute to stability. Therefore, invisible assembly is challenging since the design relies on these screws. One option is to replace the standard screws with joining elements such as flat dowels or Lamello joints, which are less visible. However, this requires tools and additional craftsmanship skills. If this is an option for you, I can provide more detailed information about available joining techniques.
If you want to completely hide the screws, it often helps to use recessed screws and then cover the holes with wooden plugs or matching caps. Alternatively, you can use plastic covers, which IKEA offers. Hiding screws on visible surfaces is generally not intended by the system itself.
I will outline a structured approach to the possible methods: 1. Positioning screws inside: The BESTA system often has screw holes in the side panels, which you can use so that the screw heads are not visible from the front. 2. Using cover caps: IKEA offers matching plugs for these holes, usually color-coordinated, which visually hide the screws. 3. Alternative joining methods: Lamello or flat dowels can completely eliminate visible screws mechanically. However, these require appropriate tools (routers or doweling jigs). 4. Drawers and doors: Screwing is often done internally, so the outer surfaces remain clean. Here, you can use concealed hinges, which are also available at IKEA. Summary: - Completely eliminating visible screws is difficult because the system is not designed for that. - However, you can significantly reduce visible screws by placing them inside and using cover caps. - For an even better finish, using alternative joining techniques is worthwhile if you are skilled in DIY.
