Christop6626 Aug 2017 14:27Hello everyone, I am currently about to assemble an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and wonder if there is a specific tool set that has proven to be particularly suitable for this piece of furniture. I have already tried various standard tool sets, but somehow something always seems to be missing or not ideal – especially for the typical IKEA connectors like dowels, screws, and metal fastener plates. Is there a tool set that truly includes all the necessary tools in good quality to carry out the assembly smoothly, efficiently, and safely? If so, which sets would you recommend, and are there any special tips or accessories that make the assembly easier?

- Phillips and flathead screwdrivers in various sizes
- A 3-in-1 multifunction tool for dowel connections
- A small cordless drill with adjustable torque settings (this saves so much time!)
I use the "Pro Builder Kit" – it has everything you need, and the quality is excellent. You just don’t get that with the usual cheap sets. Simply brilliant if you want to work quickly and neatly! It really makes assembly a breeze 😊.
Of course, the small investment is worth it for anyone who assembles furniture often or just enjoys DIY work. Give it a try, you’ll see!
I can understand the original poster’s point well, as the BRIMNES wardrobe with its many specific connection types can indeed be a bit challenging. It is especially important to use tools that fit precisely to avoid damaging screws and dowels.
For assembly, I recommend:
- A high-quality Phillips screwdriver size PH2, since most IKEA screws fit perfectly with this.
- A small cordless drill with adjustable torque settings to prevent overtightening. This is very important for sensitive chipboard used in IKEA furniture.
- A set of Allen wrenches (hex keys) in various sizes, as they are often needed.
- If possible, a gentle rubber mallet for dowels or light tapping work.
Many ready-made tool sets either include too few or too many tools. Therefore, it’s worth supplementing a set manually or purchasing selected individual tools of good quality. The largest set is not always the best.
