Hello everyone, I have a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA with doors, and unfortunately, one of the door hinges has defective plastic joints, which apparently happens quite often with frequent use. My question is: Are there replacement hinges or alternative options to fix damaged hinges on the KALLAX unit without having to replace the entire door or the whole piece of furniture? I am especially interested in whether there are compatible replacement parts available from IKEA itself or if you can rely on third-party or universal versions from hardware stores or online shops that fit without any issues. Thanks in advance for your opinions and experiences!

One more question for you: What exactly does the damage look like? Is it only the plastic joints or multiple material failures?

Thank you for the detailed explanation! The damage is mainly to the plastic joint – it has actually broken, causing the door not to close properly. The metal parts are still intact, with no cracks or deformations in the wood. I think a replacement hinge that works exactly like the original could really help.

For clarification: The KALLAX hinges are usually 35 mm (1.4 inches) cup hinges with a soft-close function. Replacement from IKEA is possible, but not always available through regular retail channels.

Recommendation:
- Contact IKEA customer service directly.
- Note the exact model number (usually on the back of the hinge).
- Alternatively, suitable hinges from Blum or Hettich with similar specifications are available.

Note: The soft-close function is not included in all universal hinges, so if desired, make sure to check this when selecting replacements.

This is typical for the plastic insert in many IKEA hinges that mechanically hold the damper. If you cannot find an OEM replacement, I recommend switching to hinges with a fully metal construction or those with replaceable damping components. These are more durable and can be repaired without plastic breakage.

One more tip: When ordering from a specialist supplier, make sure to check the 35mm (1.4 inch) mounting hole spacing carefully, otherwise the door panel will require modification.
