Hello everyone, I am planning to get some IKEA Platsa cabinets and am currently preparing for the assembly. I am wondering if there is a practical assembly app or a digital tool specifically designed for this cabinet system.
I am particularly interested in features like step-by-step instructions, possibly 3D models or assembly videos that can be used directly on a smartphone or tablet. Is there anything that significantly simplifies the assembly and maybe also provides tips or warnings about common mistakes?
So far, I haven’t found anything really special in the usual app stores and would appreciate it if someone could share their experience or recommendations regarding such an assembly app for IKEA Platsa.

As far as I know, IKEA offers a general app for some of their products that includes assembly instructions, but unfortunately it’s not always specifically tailored to PLATSA. The instructions are often available as PDFs or web apps, but as far as I know, an interactive or 3D-based application is still missing.
There are also third-party apps that simulate furniture assembly, but these are not specifically for PLATSA and tend to be quite generic.
I would definitely encourage you to give those kinds of tools a try anyway, because sometimes you find some hidden little helpers! So, don’t give up and feel free to share if you discover anything!

IKEA does have the "IKEA Place" app and a general product instructions app, but in my experience, there is no dedicated assembly app specifically for PLATSA.
However, on the official IKEA website, you can find very detailed PDF manuals for PLATSA, usually with clear images and step-by-step instructions. While these are not interactive, they are very helpful for assembly. Using a tablet is practical here because you can quickly switch between different steps.
If you use a smartphone or tablet, you can also find video tutorials on platforms like YouTube, where individual assembly sections are often well demonstrated.
It is important to prepare all required parts and tools before starting the assembly and to follow the steps carefully to avoid mistakes.
In general, the topic of “digital assembly support” at IKEA still has room for improvement.
I would like to explain this from a technical perspective in more detail because I have noticed that many people wish for an assembly app for PLATSA that offers more than just PDFs or static images.
From my research and experience, there is currently no official IKEA app specifically designed for PLATSA that provides interactive assembly support in the form of 3D visualizations or augmented reality (AR). IKEA Place is an AR app, but it primarily serves to visualize furniture in a room, not for assembly guidance.
Assembly of PLATSA is complex, and modular construction is characterized by many combination options, which makes a standard app challenging. Some third-party apps offer virtual assembly simulations, but these are often inaccurate or outdated, which can lead to errors.
For a truly efficient assembly app, the following features would need to be included:
- A customizable assembly plan based on your individual PLATSA design
- Step-by-step assembly instructions with 3D animations
- Alerts for common mistakes or warnings regarding specific fasteners or connectors
- The ability to resolve questions directly within the app (FAQs or chatbot)
If you are planning a very complex configuration, it might be advisable to start with the PLATSA planner for room and furniture design before thinking about assembly.
I would be interested to know: Which PLATSA variant would you like to assemble, and what is your assembly experience (experienced vs. beginner)? This could help provide more suitable advice on app usage or alternative support tools.
