Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I bought the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and now plan to disassemble it to reassemble it in another location. However, I couldn’t find an official Ikea guide for dismantling this piece of furniture.

My question is: Is there a detailed and easy-to-follow disassembly guide for the Ikea BRIMNES wardrobe, ideally including advice on precautions to avoid damage during the process?

Tips on handling screws, dowels, or other fasteners would also be helpful. I am concerned about some hidden screws or special construction elements that I’m not sure how to remove.

Does anyone have experience with this or know a reliable source or procedure that could help? I would appreciate specific answers, as I want to proceed carefully and systematically.

Ikea usually does not provide an official disassembly guide separately. The best approach is to follow the assembly instructions in reverse order. Loosen the screws in the order they were tightened during assembly, lay the furniture flat on the floor, and remove the drawers and back panels.

I can offer you a simple step-by-step guide that I used myself when dismantling a BRIMNES:

- First, remove all the drawers completely.
- Then detach the back panel, which is usually fixed with nails; carefully pry it off using a putty knife or a similar tool.
- Next, loosen the visible screws on the side panels and shelves. These screws often require an Allen key to remove.
- Be careful not to damage any glued joints while loosening parts. If possible, double-check that all screws are removed before taking the furniture apart.
- It’s helpful to note the order of disassembly or take photos to make reassembly easier later.

A common mistake is removing the back panel too early, since it stabilizes the entire structure. That’s why you should remove the drawers first!

If you encounter any specific issues with hidden screws, feel free to describe them here so we can offer more targeted advice.

Regarding fasteners in the BRIMNES:

The BRIMNES is built quite modularly. Most connectors are either cam locks (cam fasteners) or screws that can be removed using a cordless drill with the appropriate bit. The back panel is usually nailed or attached with small staples, so be careful not to damage the MDF behind it.

Steps I would recommend:

- Start by removing the drawers, then remove all visible screws using the correct tool (usually a hex key).
- For cam locks, you generally turn the cam counterclockwise to loosen the connections.
- The back panel should be gently loosened with a thin putty knife—don’t pull or rip it off abruptly.

It’s important to keep all parts organized and store screws in small containers to avoid mix-ups during reassembly.

If you can provide the exact model variant or a picture of the back side, I can give you more precise information about which screws are used and what to watch out for.

In conclusion: patience is key during disassembly, especially since the BRIMNES is designed to be sturdy and easy to assemble, but not necessarily intended for frequent dismantling.
