Hello,

The drain in our shower is already starting to weaken, and we have only been living in the house for 15 months.
We have a linear shower drain from Geberit. The cover is regularly removed, and some hair always gets caught on the black plastic prongs. However, I’m afraid that a lot of hair is passing through and now clogging the pipe. I have ordered a professional product (PEIP F drain cleaner) to fix this. Hopefully, it works!

Is there an additional hair strainer that can be used with linear shower drains? I haven’t really found anything on this. I would like to take preventive measures in the future.

Thank you and best regards

Yes, for example from ACO (Showerdrain E). You will also need the appropriate odor trap for their strainer. You insert this together with the strainer into the drain.

Professional drain cleaners are rubbish. DIY drain cleaning products are no better and not exactly environmentally friendly. It’s better to use a pressure blaster or a drain snake if possible. It only takes about a minute. The initial cost is roughly the same as drain cleaner (around 8 euros).

I have long hair and know the problem well. That’s why I specifically opted for a “normal” drain so I can occasionally just use a plunger. Done.

I have long hair and understand the problem. That’s why I specifically chose a “standard” drain so I can occasionally clear it easily with a plunger. Done.

I now have a shower channel drain... no idea how a drain snake would work with that.

Apparently, that is possible, or so I've heard. But how exactly, I don't know either.

I would simply pull a nylon stocking over the cover. Done.
