ᐅ Is there a guide for building an IKEA BESTA as a lowboard with reinforcement?

I am planning to use my existing IKEA BESTÅ system as a lowboard and am looking for reliable guidance or recommendations on how to reinforce this piece of furniture so it can safely support heavy equipment like TVs and sound systems. The standard BESTÅ modules are usually not designed for high loads, and I want to avoid any sagging or instability in the lowboard. Are there proven methods to make the shelving unit more stable, for example with additional reinforcements, braces, or other measures? I am particularly interested in detailed instructions or step-by-step tips that go beyond general advice. If anyone has personal experience or technical insights regarding the materials and connection types (screws, metal brackets, etc.), I would greatly appreciate it.

Most people reinforce it from behind and practically turn it into a custom-built piece of furniture. You put it very well. That’s exactly the direction of my question, because I want to modify the basic furniture more sensibly and securely instead of starting completely from scratch.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far; your posts have greatly enriched this thread for me! If anyone knows a detailed construction or reinforcement guide with measurements and example photos, please share it – but without referring to external links, as I want to stay focused within this forum.
It's great to see this thread providing so much practical help. I'd like to add a tip: for increased stability, gluing the internal dowel joints with wood glue can work wonders. It's important to retighten all screws regularly, as they can loosen over time with use.
I also once built a structure using cross braces made of aluminum profiles – it looks a bit technical, but it adds a lot of stability. If you're interested in such solutions, I can provide more detailed information.

Could you briefly outline how you installed the aluminum cross braces? I’m interested in how it visually fits into the BESTÅ and how the attachment is done. Thanks in advance!
