Hello everyone, I’m looking for a guide or proven tips on how to make IKEA Brimnes furniture overall quieter. Specifically, I’m concerned about the drawers and doors, which make quite a loud rattling noise when opening or closing. I suspect it might be due to the assembly or missing dampers, but I don’t want to take the furniture apart without a clear idea. Does anyone have experience with making BRIMNES furniture quieter without significantly altering the original parts? I’m especially interested in simple solutions focused on reducing noise when closing. Thanks for your help!

How exactly can I remove the drawer slides without causing any damage?

Removing the drawer slides on Brimnes furniture is generally straightforward, but it’s best to proceed methodically:

- First, fully pull out the drawer.
- Then, check the back of the slide for small locking clips or screws.
- Often, the slides can be released by gently tilting or pressing plastic tabs.
- If screws are present, loosen them carefully—do not remove completely, just enough to take out the slide.

Be careful not to bend the parts too much. Using a screwdriver with the correct head is recommended to loosen the screws in a controlled way.

After that, you can clean, lubricate, and inspect the slides for any damage. When reinstalling, make sure everything is aligned flush and straight to prevent noise during operation.

For silent opening and closing of the drawers in the BRIMNES, rubber or felt strips at the contact points usually work best.

The drawer slides should also be clean and move smoothly. Occasional maintenance helps prevent creaking noises.

I agree with the tips and would like to add: With BRIMNES, it can also help to add extra insulation to the back panel—often made of thin particleboard—such as thin felt pads or simply a piece of carpet fabric. This prevents vibrations and muffled noises.

Additionally, I have sometimes attached small rubber door stoppers to doors to soften impact sounds.

If the furniture stands on a floor covering, using soft furniture feet is also useful to reduce structure-borne noise transmitted to the floor.

If you would like more detailed advice on materials or installation, I’m happy to provide further information.
