Hello everyone, I am considering modifying my IKEA Besta furniture piece into a TV and media unit. My specific question is: Is there a clear, preferably simple and step-by-step guide on how to modify the BESTA system to include cable management, create space for consoles and receivers, and possibly even install a sturdy mount for the TV? It is important to me that the steps are manageable for a layperson without the need for expensive special tools or advanced woodworking skills. Does anyone have experience with this or know of a guide on how to approach it? Thank you very much in advance!

Buy wooden board, remove back panel, screw board in place, attach TV mount. Drill cable entry holes on top or at the back.

I just did this myself. Tip: Use cable ducts or clips that stick to the inside of the side walls. This keeps the cables organized. For the TV mount: The plywood sheet is invaluable. Pre-drill, insert anchors, and the mount will hold perfectly.

If stability is important to you, I recommend using a glued laminated timber board instead of the back panel. The back panel is often just a thin chipboard, which does not support the TV mount well. Cable grommets from the hardware store are very practical.

On the topic of instructions: There are many DIY videos available online, but no official IKEA manuals for this kind of conversion. My recommendation: Draw your furniture layout, plan where appliances will go, and carefully measure cable routes. This will help you avoid mistakes during the conversion.

I drilled a cable entry hole in my Besta and mounted a bracket behind a reinforced rear panel. It is important to choose the right drill bit size, as cables do not look good when squeezed through the openings.
