Hello, 7 years ago I had a soil survey carried out on our plot of land (2x 8m (26 feet) 1x 6m (20 feet) 1x 4m (13 feet)). Now the construction company wants a new survey because the DIN standards have changed and the groundwater level has risen. Does that make sense? The soil hasn't changed after all. To be honest, I feel this is just a way to make extra money.

Why? The construction company doesn’t profit from that. In my opinion, it must be justified, especially considering the warranty.

Hello,
I assume this is about DIN 18533-1 regarding waterproofing of buildings (Waterproofing of components in contact with the ground from 2017).

It concerns whether your house needs to be waterproofed against pressurized water or just against soil moisture.

This depends on
- the type of soil (sand/gravel = permeable, clay/loam = low permeability)
- the water level (distance from the foundation slab to the groundwater)
- and therefore also on your foundation type (basement or slab-on-ground) and the depth of embedment.

These factors determine the water exposure class relevant for the building.

Groundwater levels can naturally vary (in summer up to one meter (3 feet) lower than in autumn), so the waterproofing system must be selected accordingly.

In general, I would suggest consulting the geotechnical engineer to see if they can adjust the waterproofing recommendations to your planning. This should not be very expensive. I also think it would be pointless to conduct new soil investigations.

Feel free to share soil type, water level, and planned foundation type.

Regards

What could have changed in the ground conditions over 7 years?
