ᐅ Edging higher than the new lawn?

Hello everyone,

I recently built a new house and paved a 1 meter (3.3 feet) wide path around it, including lawn edging. Now it’s time to fill in with topsoil, which will need to be between 20 and 30 cm (8 and 12 inches) deep due to the height difference.

The question is how high to fill with soil. I have heard different opinions. Some say leave it 3-4 cm (1.2-1.6 inches) below the lawn edging because the new lawn will rise over the years, which works better for robotic lawn mowers, and that if the turf grows too high it can cause issues. Others recommend filling it up to the height of the lawn edging, also because of the mower.

How did you handle this, and what are your experiences? I was thinking of leaving about 4 cm (1.6 inches) below the edging and then sowing the lawn.

Best regards

So, a shaft level with the lawn edge and everything filled flush? Sounds like a plan.
I’ve even read that some people fill 2cm (1 inch) higher and then compact, but that sounds to me like it would cause water to pool. I hate my new status.
