ᐅ Is a combination of decentralized fresh air supply and centralized exhaust air effective?

Hello everyone,

we are currently planning a single-family house, and our general contractor recommended a ventilation system that combines decentralized supply air with centralized exhaust air. What are your thoughts on this?

Details:
  • Decentralized supply air in living areas via window ventilators (Aeromat MIDI by Siegenia Aubi) with control damper
  • Central exhaust air from wet rooms through a fresh air system with active heat recovery and domestic hot water heating (Comfort Aeraulix multi-family house system by Atlantic)
How it works:
  • The central ventilation system extracts used, warm exhaust air from wet rooms and uses the heat with a small heat pump for domestic hot water heating.
  • The negative pressure inside the house causes fresh air to flow in from outside through the decentralized window ventilators.
Questions:
  • General assessment
  • Regarding the window ventilators: Does anyone have experience with these? Is there a noticeable draft? Does too much cold air enter the room in cold months? Is the noise level disturbing?
  • Regarding the ventilation system: Is the power consumption of the heat pump acceptable? The hot water tank holds only 200 liters (53 gallons). Is that enough for a family of four?

Thank you for your help!

Well, here’s the idea:

We build the best windows with the highest performance values... and then we cut holes in them, allowing air to pass through again.

You can see that this is not really ideal...

Thank you for your response.

But isn’t it the case with every ventilation system, including centralized ones, that the otherwise airtight building envelope is punctured again to bring fresh air into the house?

Or is this specifically the case with air inlets above the window?

Yes, but only at two points: supply air and exhaust air, and the device contains a heat exchanger... it’s not simply holes in the wall or window here and there.
