ᐅ Is it beneficial to prepare for photovoltaic systems during new construction?

Hello

I am about to buy a new build from a developer.

Does it make sense to prepare for a photovoltaic system so that it can be installed later?

What exactly is needed for the preparation? Just an empty conduit?

They are probably very busy, so it might take some time to get a response.
If I were you, I would politely ask the admin via private message about the status of your email.
Regardless, you can already have your future system planned by the community there.

Hi everyone,

I’m jumping in here – I hope that’s okay. We are currently building a semi-detached house with a developer. So far, in the special requests catalog, we have only found empty conduits with a diameter of 25mm (1 inch).

This is our "roof situation":

A colored floor plan of a triangular plot with building areas, measurements, and a north arrow.

I have two questions regarding this:

1. Is it generally worthwhile to prepare for a solar power system with this roof orientation?

The roof measures approximately 12 x 6 meters (39 x 20 feet).

2. If yes, what kind of empty conduits should I have installed and where would be best? We have the utility room in unit WE1 at the left corner of the plan.

I appreciate any help!

Best regards,
Sven

Hello Sven!

With a northwest orientation, the system won’t be highly efficient, but ultimately it depends on the roof pitch whether it is "worth it" at all.
Are there no other windows, dormers, ventilation pipes, or similar that might need to be taken into account?

Otherwise, just have a system offered to you or check out relevant online tools that allow for a better estimation.

Regarding the empty conduits, I can’t really help you, but with 25mm (1 inch) diameter it will definitely be tight.

Hello netuser!

Thank you for the quick response! It is a flat roof, sorry I completely forgot to mention that! Okay – thanks anyway! Does anyone else know if I should plan for 40mm (1.6 inch) pipes or something like that? Many thanks!

Flat roofs work perfectly well for photovoltaic systems!
Conduits at least 3xM40

With a flat roof, you have complete design freedom and optimization possibilities as you like ... 🙂
Then +/- 10 kWp should also be feasible.
