Hello

We would like to have parquet flooring. Since we partially have underfloor heating, I am wondering if there is anything we should consider?! Are all parquet floors suitable for use with underfloor heating? Wood has an insulating effect, doesn’t it?

In our case, we want to install parquet flooring in three rooms. Two of them have underfloor heating.

Many thanks!

Hello,
Parquet flooring works well on underfloor heating, but the following points should be considered:

- The moisture content of the wood should be 8% ±2% for engineered parquet and 9% ±2% for strip and mosaic parquet.

- The thermal resistance of the parquet must not exceed 0.18 m²K/W (m²·K/W). Solid wood usually meets this requirement, but with engineered parquet, the combined value of the carrier material and the top layer must comply.

- The spacing between the heating pipes should be a maximum of 30cm (12 inches); the supply temperature must not exceed 50°C (122°F).
The parquet adhesive must be suitable for heated screed substrates (primer coating is required beforehand; always follow the manufacturer’s instructions).
Surface temperature of the screed should be maintained between 15°C and 18°C (59°F and 64°F).

- After installation, the underfloor heating must be gradually heated again. This heating and cooling process lasts at least 14 days – it is better to extend it than to shorten it.
