Hello everyone,

we are just about to start the interior finishing.

For this, we would prefer to use OSB as a vapor barrier instead of a foil.

Our building materials supplier informed us that for our roof structure (from outside to inside):
- Tiles
- Batten strips for tiles
- Counter battens
- 22 mm (7/8 inch) wood fiber boards
- 20 cm (8 inches) rafters
- Blown-in cellulose insulation

using OSB as a vapor barrier is sufficient. The OSB would be sealed at the joints and edges with ISOVER Multi Tape and KB1.

Below that, on the sloped ceilings, we plan to screw on drywall, and in the area near the attic, install battens to run the wiring for the lights.

In your opinion, is this adequate?

We often hear from acquaintances that they cannot imagine not installing a foil under the rafters.

We appreciate any advice you can offer.

Hello,
You have a very nice insulation there!

Answer: completely sufficient! At the junctions between the angled surfaces and the wall, a loop may be formed using a small piece of foil (taped to the OSB) or created with plenty of allowance on the tape.
I would extend the battens for the drywall installation fully over the angled surfaces.

Best regards,
Ellie

Hello Ellie,

First of all, thanks for your response.

It's reassuring to hear that you think we have good insulation.

For the joints in the OSB boards, we are using ISOVER KB1.

For the wall connections, we have ISOVER Multitape, but we will send it back and get the Multitape SL instead, which can be split when removing the backing. Is it also necessary to seal the wall connections with VARIO DoubleFit? That would require a lot of cartridges.

A friend once used Würth tape for sealing the OSB boards. What would you recommend for that?

Many are also wondering why we don’t have any membrane under or on top of the OSB boards. The building materials supplier says it’s not needed because we have the vapor barrier in the form of the OSB.

We sealed the wall connection of the membrane using the Vario ProTape (which is specifically designed for this) and only sprayed the corners with DoubleFit where needed.

Hello RFR,

we are using OSB boards as a vapor barrier. Many people are skeptical about this.

We requested quotes for ISOVER products. A friend mentioned recently that Würth’s adhesive tapes are just as good but less expensive. To seal the joints, he used the Eurasol tape—whatever exactly that is.

However, I can’t find any information on whether the wall connections (OSB to gypsum board and OSB to cement-lime plaster) can also be made with it or if it is approved for those specific applications.
