Hello everyone,

We had our garage plastered with a lime-cement plaster (WebrDdur 110) that was smoothed.

The plasterer wants to use the same plaster on the base area of the ground slab of our house.

Our site manager believes that only a fiber-reinforced base plaster should be applied over the XPS insulation boards.

The base area is not part of the developer’s scope, so we are free to choose here.

Who is correct?

Can the lime-cement plaster be used, or should we opt for the significantly more expensive base plaster (Sakret KAB)?

Thank you very much

For us, only applying base levelling and silicone resin render is planned for the entire exterior facade.

Here it is common practice for plastered houses:
The base receives a waterproof slurry already during the masonry work.
Then the same base coat as the rest of the facade is applied.
On top of that, a synthetic resin render from a bucket, like Sakret BSP or similar, is applied.

We experience this problem almost every year: during winter, palm-sized pieces peel off near the base (lime-cement plaster) of the garden fence because lime attracts moisture and frost causes the rest of the damage.
We would never use lime-based products in the base area again, but back then we didn’t know these things.
Since we are planning a major renovation of the house anyway, for now we will just do some repairs until the excavator removes the entire masonry fence and the trouble finally ends.
Make sure to get good advice on this.
