Hello everyone,
I am interested in whether it is possible to retrofit the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe, specifically the model with drawers, with a soft-close mechanism. I want to know if there are compatible soft-close drawer dampers available that work with the existing drawer slides, or if the conversion would be complex and might require additional modifications to the wardrobe.
I have noticed that Ikea offers soft-close options on some newer models, but my BRIMNES does not have this feature. Does anyone have reliable solutions or experience with how this can be achieved?
Thanks in advance for your opinions and tips!

I have already noticed that Ikea itself offers soft-close features on some newer models, but there is no sign of that on my BRIMNES. Does anyone know reliable solutions or have experience with whether and how this can be implemented? To clarify again: Ikea uses not only soft-close runners on newer models but often also special opening mechanisms that are seamlessly integrated into the drawer design. Retrofitting is therefore sometimes limited because it’s not just about the damper but also the runner itself.
If you rely on pure soft-close dampers for the Brimnes, check the load capacity of the runners to ensure the force is not too high for the existing fittings. Additionally, there are models where the runner itself needs to be slightly repositioned, which is not always feasible with simple screw fastenings.
I would recommend first checking with a screwdriver and tape measure how easy a complete replacement of the runners would be compared to only installing soft-close dampers on the sides.
Retrofitting soft-close mechanisms to a BRIMNES is definitely doable, and as mentioned, it worked smoothly for me! 😎
One additional tip: If you want a really polished look, you might want to check the handles as well – sometimes soft-close drawers operate a bit differently, and an ergonomic handle complements the setup perfectly.
Otherwise, just give it a try, be a little patient, and the result will definitely make a difference. Have fun with the project!
