Hello everyone,
I’m considering whether the Ikea PAX wardrobe system can be modified for a children's room to make it truly age-appropriate and, above all, safe for young children. I’m thinking about the possibility of adjusting the height and interior layout to suit children, as well as minimizing potential hazards such as sharp corners, heavy doors, or lack of tipping restraints.
Has anyone had experience with this or ideas on what specific modifications or additions could make the PAX wardrobe usable and safe for different age groups, from toddlers to teenagers?
I look forward to your opinions and advice!

It makes sense to modify the wardrobe so that it grows with the child:
- For toddlers, doors with soft-close mechanisms and tilt-locks
- For preschoolers, lower clothing rods
- For school-age children and teenagers, modular interior compartments that can be adjusted to changing needs
The options for customizing the interior fittings are wonderfully versatile, but it is essential to pay close attention to safety during installation, especially the wall mounting.
For children with high activity levels or smaller setups, it is also worth considering padding corners with foam and, for example, replacing handles with child-friendly, softer versions.
All in all, I believe it is definitely possible to adapt the IKEA PAX system to be age-appropriate for children’s bedrooms—but careful planning and attention are essential.

Soft-close doors and low shelves help. Don’t forget edge protectors. That’s all. Works well.
