I am considering whether it is possible to modify the doors of the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe to provide additional storage space. More specifically: Are there practical ways to equip the hinged doors with smart features like shelves, pockets, or drawers without compromising the structural integrity or design too much? I want to maximize the interior space, but I can’t find much information on whether the doors are sturdy enough or how to best attach mounting hardware for such a modification. Does anyone have experience with this or can offer advice on how to effectively increase storage on the doors?

In summary, I understand that Brimnes doors, due to their thin material, are designed for light, flat, and minimally stressed additions, but larger installations require very careful reinforcements that may not be achievable without professional knowledge. I will probably start with fabric solutions and might try building custom shelves from lightweight wood with internal brackets. Still, the advice that one shouldn’t expect too much from standard Ikea doors is very helpful — also to avoid unrealistic plans. For me, it was important to better assess what is technically feasible. If anyone has tips for stable, flat mounting systems, please feel free to share!
