ᐅ Is it possible to install hardwood flooring by gluing it yourself, or is it better to hire a professional?

Hello,

we wanted to choose the flooring today, and the flooring specialist told us that the 85 sqm (915 sq ft) of parquet could also be glued down or installed by ourselves.

I know that with floating installation, this should not be a problem, but what do you think about gluing?

Is 5 full days realistic for this, what is your estimate? Having it professionally installed costs 22 euros per sqm, so the potential savings would be about 1500 euros including the discount we would receive.

Prefinished parquet is also available in small strips, for example from Bauwerk, which I can highly recommend. It was very easy to install, and everything fit perfectly.

Prefinished parquet, even when glued down, can be removed more easily.

Prefer strip parquet because it looks neater, as the joints are less visible or more uniform.

What do you think?

Have you had a chance to check out the different options at a specialist store?

Strip parquet naturally has more seams because it consists of more individual pieces. So why not consider plank flooring if you find too many seams bothersome?

P.S. It has to please YOU, not others. So take a look and then decide.

Strip parquet is basically for "a lifetime." In other words, it can often be sanded down.

We recently restored 20-year-old lacquered prefinished parquet (around 100 square meters (1,076 square feet) sanded and oiled ourselves as non-professionals).

A complete sanding won’t be possible again because the wear layer on our parquet is simply too thin.

Do you have underfloor heating?

With engineered hardwood flooring, where three planks are always grouped together, the joints eventually become visible and it ends up looking like laminate. I find that unattractive.

Hmm, but laminate flooring was supposed to mimic the look of hardwood flooring when it first became popular...
