I recently saw a really beautiful cork floor at friends' house. Is it possible to install it yourself?

If you have some DIY skills, you can also install flooring yourself. Especially when it comes to cutouts (e.g., around heating pipes or fireplaces) and adjustments to walls, you need to be able to cut accurately; otherwise, it will look unattractive. The subfloor must be perfectly level, as any unevenness or imperfections will show through the cork underlayment. Many DIY enthusiasts lay floors themselves – it’s doable.

Hello,

We installed a cork floor ourselves, and it wasn’t a big success. My husband is skilled with DIY, and I am his right-hand support. 🙂

We installed the cork as a floating floor, and the subfloor was level and dust-free. The individual pieces are fitted together. The expansion gap is also important and shouldn’t be too narrow. Otherwise, you can end up with bulges later on.

The work was enjoyable for both of us.

Hello,

This is really not a big challenge. I have installed cork flooring myself several times. If you are unsure, there are some videos online that explain the process in detail.

Even beginners can manage this. Cork should be stored in the room where it will be installed for 48 hours.

Hello Hannes,

Thank you for the information. We are also planning to install a cork floor next week. I have just found several videos online that explain the installation process in detail.

Your advice about waiting 48 hours is very helpful; we hadn’t considered that. 🙁

There are no particular issues, and cork can be easily installed. The cork flooring must be fully glued down. It is also important to ensure that the subfloor is dry and free of any contaminants.

I applied the adhesive to both the cork flooring and the subfloor using a roller. Then I waited about an hour until the adhesive became transparent. After that, the cork flooring was installed.
