Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the Ikea Brimnes furniture system, specifically the wardrobe and dressers from this series. Is it possible to retrofit the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe or dressers with caster wheels so that they can roll and be moved more easily? I mainly want to know if this is feasible in terms of stability and construction, since the furniture is originally designed without wheels and normally stands firmly on the floor. Are there any tried and tested conversion options or suitable wheels that can be attached without damaging the furniture or affecting its functionality? Thanks in advance for your assessments and experiences!

Here is a brief guide in case someone wants to add casters to a Brimnes: 1. Material choice: Use sturdy furniture casters with a locking mechanism and a load capacity of at least 20 kg (44 lbs) per caster, preferably 30 kg (66 lbs). 2. Substructure: Screw a 12-15 mm (0.5-0.6 inch) thick plywood panel under the bottom of the furniture. This helps to better distribute the load. 3. Attachment: The casters are fixed to this panel with screws, but be careful not to use screws that are too long, as they could penetrate into the furniture. 4. Stability test: After installation, check the firmness to ensure the furniture does not wobble or tip over. 5. Function test: Drawers and doors should open and close without obstruction. 6. Alternative: For lighter weight or less frequent movement, felt-based furniture sliders are recommended to prevent damage to the furniture.

Caster feet on the Brimnes are feasible if you use a sturdy board as a base. Make sure to use casters with locks for safety. I would not recommend mounting them directly without a base.
