Whether you can do this yourself is not an easy question to answer.
In any case, the layer must be within a specific tolerance afterward.
For us, for example, it wouldn’t have been worthwhile in terms of cost and benefit.
If you have the exact specifications from the architect (e.g., 15 cm (6 inches) of 8/16 crushed stone or similar) for what you need, I would suggest contacting a sand or gravel supplier to ask about the price of the gravel.
Then, I would ask several civil contractors what they would charge to install the layer.
If you take your earlier specifications as an example, you would need about 10 m³ (13 yd³) of gravel (I deliberately used a base area of 10 m x 10 m (33 ft x 33 ft)).
Our contractor, for example, charges nearly €2 (about $2.20) more per m² (about 11 ft²) to deliver and install “gravel / crushed stone” than the sand supplier does just for the gravel itself (pure material cost).
In my opinion, it is not worth doing this yourself (and ensuring that the tolerances are met).

Hmm, I haven’t checked the prices yet. But my basement contractor charges about 1500 € for this work. That’s why I’m asking which type of gravel is needed, so I can request price quotes from the manufacturers.

Hello,
as Michael already correctly pointed out, you need to prepare a subgrade and achieve the correct final elevation. It’s not just a matter of quickly laying down some gravel and compacting it...
In the end, you probably won’t save anything. Not to mention potential warranty claims if something doesn’t fit at the end.
