Hello everyone, I recently assembled an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe and noticed that the doors sometimes creak or squeak slightly when moved. I’m wondering if this noise is normal for the Hemnes model or if it might indicate loose installation, insufficient lubrication, or possibly material issues. Has anyone else experienced something similar with the Hemnes? If so, how did you resolve the problem? Are there any specific tips for assembly or maintenance to reduce the noises? Thanks in advance for your feedback!
[@ineslu] A controlled indoor climate is definitely better for wooden furniture. A relative humidity of about 40-60% reduces stresses in the wood that can cause creaking. Regarding the hinges, careful disassembly and renewing the lubrication is not a problem and does not affect the warranty, as long as the parts are not damaged. Important: Use suitable lubricants such as silicone spray or furniture wax, not oil-based or sticky substances. Ikea itself does not provide any particularly forbidden maintenance instructions for Hemnes, so you are on the safe side with clean, careful work.

After a quick pass with the screwdriver, everything was quiet again. So, keep your spirits up—this is a common issue and often fixed easily with a bit of maintenance. Good luck!

But joking aside – if it’s annoying, simple steps usually help: check the screws, lightly sand any wooden areas, and lubricate all moving parts well. Hemnes is a sturdy piece, so it’s worth taking care of it. And if nothing helps, Ikea’s customer service is generally very straightforward. Good luck, and hopefully your cabinet will be completely silent soon!
