Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble the Ikea Hemnes dresser myself but I’m unsure how difficult the assembly actually is. Has anyone had experience with it? I’m particularly interested in whether there are often problems with specific steps like assembling the drawers or attaching the back panels, or if the instructions are clear enough for someone with average DIY skills. It would also be helpful to know how much time one should realistically allow for the assembly and whether any special tools are needed that are not usually found in a typical household. Thanks in advance for your insights!

One more note about tools: Besides the classic screwdriver, a rubber or plastic mallet is helpful for gently setting wooden dowels. Exactly, that is often underestimated. For everyone starting with the Hemnes, here is a tip on the process:- Before you begin, check all parts against the parts list.
- Sort small parts by type and size.
- Start with the side panels and build the basic frame.
- When installing the drawer slides, pay attention to the markings and tighten screws evenly but loosely.
- Attach the back panel only after full assembly, as this improves stability.

If you want to share your experience here, we could help you even more specifically. Thank you all for the detailed information so far! I ultimately decided on the smaller Hemnes dresser (80 cm width) (32 inches). I’m confident in my basic DIY skills, but I’m worried that aligning the drawers might be challenging.
I’ll take my time over the weekend to start the assembly carefully, trying to apply your advice—especially using the rubber mallet and the spirit level.
If I run into any problems, I’ll gladly come back with specific questions. For now, I just want to sincerely thank you all; the information has already given me much more confidence.
