Hello everyone,

I’m about to assemble an IKEA Metod cabinet and have a somewhat detailed question about it, where I’d like to rely on the community’s experience:

Is it really worthwhile to readjust the Metod cabinet doors after assembly?

At first glance, everything seems fairly flush, but I know from experience that cabinet doors often don’t close perfectly or can warp slightly. Since the hinges are adjustable and IKEA also mentions the possibility of fine-tuning in the instructions, I’m curious whether this effort is truly worth it to avoid long-term issues like misaligned doors, uneven gaps, or poor closing function.

Or is it completely fine to just leave the doors as they are after the initial assembly?

What have your experiences been? Is the effort worth it in terms of preserving the materials, functionality, and appearance, or is it more of an unnecessary “fine-tuning” that can be skipped? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Fine-tuning the IKEA Metod cabinet doors is indeed recommended.

- First, it corrects installation inaccuracies, as small deviations often occur during assembly.
- Second, proper adjustment prevents mechanical issues such as uneven closing, which can cause premature wear.
- Third, it improves the appearance: even gaps and flush fitting are important for aesthetics.

The hinges in the Metod series offer three adjustment options (height, depth, and side), accessible with a Phillips screwdriver. This is not a complicated procedure but rather a fine-tuning that significantly enhances functionality.

My advice: after the initial installation, the doors should definitely be checked and adjusted if necessary to ensure the cabinet’s long-term usability.

I fully agree with Lorukeo and would like to add the following points:

- Especially with multi-story Metod cabinet combinations, precise adjustment ensures a stable load distribution of the doors.
- The hinge material is designed to allow multiple readjustments without any loss of quality.
- Additionally, adjustment allows compensation for uneven walls or minor installation errors, significantly improving the assembly.

Overall, I consider readjustment to be a worthwhile maintenance measure that benefits both the longevity and the appearance.

Hello Niklasha48,

I would like to add a point that you might be familiar with from everyday experience: doors that are not properly adjusted can warp or sag over time. This is especially common with wooden doors like those in Metod cabinets, often due to fluctuations in humidity.

Therefore, readjusting the doors is not only about appearance right after assembly but also a preventative measure. It makes sense to check the doors again a few weeks after installation and readjust them if necessary to ensure they continue to function well.

If you have the tools and time, this small effort is definitely worthwhile.

Hey,

there’s a simple rule of thumb I always follow: “Well adjusted is half the battle.” 😉

Spending a few minutes fine-tuning often makes a bigger difference than you’d expect. It can really be the difference between doors that frustratingly stick or hang unevenly—and doors that open smoothly and look good doing it.

Plus, this helps prevent material damage or loose hinges over time. So yes, I’d definitely say that readjusting is worthwhile and will probably save you a lot of headaches later.

If done right, it’s really not that annoying, I promise.

Readjusting is worthwhile. Otherwise, sensitive doors close less smoothly.

Tool: A Phillips screwdriver is sufficient.

Metod hinges have three adjustment screws. It’s quick and significantly improves functionality.
