Hello everyone, I have a question and would like to hear your opinions: Do you think it makes sense to put the IKEA Kallax shelving unit on legs instead of placing it directly on the floor? I’m referring to those small wooden or plastic feet that you screw or stick under the unit to raise the furniture slightly. I’m mainly interested in aspects like stability, ease of use, cleaning, and appearance. Could placing it on legs also affect load capacity or the ability to slide something under the shelf? I’d really appreciate it if some of you who have tried this could share your experiences. Thanks in advance!

If you put the shelf on legs, you need to consider the height. Will it still fit under other furniture or into niches? If not, it’s better to place it directly on the floor. I think this point is very important, thank you for that! Does anyone use legs that can be height-adjusted? That way you could stay flexible, I’d rather not lose that flexibility.
Adjustable feet are definitely a good idea, as they can compensate for uneven floors and improve stability. This is especially beneficial in older buildings or apartments with slightly sloping floors. However, you should make sure that the feet are load-bearing and avoid cheap plastic versions that may weaken under pressure.
Hey, I only recently put my Kallax on wooden legs, and I’m really impressed! 🙂 It not only adds a lighter feel to the room, but it also makes cleaning underneath so much easier without having to move the furniture. Definitely recommend it if you want a bit more style and functionality. This is brilliant!

Feet can also protect against moisture when you sweep or mop. That’s a great point. Especially in damp rooms or in case of cleaning accidents, I believe this provides a real benefit.
