there is already a working electrical connection at our property, meaning the distribution box, meter, etc. are all functioning. It would also be possible to install a high-voltage connection.
Is it advisable to have an electrician apply for and install a temporary construction power box here, or does that end up costing the same or more than just paying the regular electricity rates right away?

The expensive part of temporary construction power is not the electricity itself but the box rented from the electrician.
In our case, I think it was about 3 euros per day.
Of course, the electricity cost depends on the amount used, but the electricity rate is the same whether it goes through a temporary construction meter or a permanent meter.

With us, the "hardware" is provided by the construction company and is not charged separately. Therefore, it does not matter to me which meter the electricity is supplied through.
The setup for the temporary construction power connection costs just under 180€ in Lower Saxony. A few kilometers away in Bremen, a multiple of that amount is charged.

I don’t understand the question at all. The temporary construction power is needed by the trades until the utility company connects you to the grid. In new builds, this usually happens once the windows and doors are installed. The distribution box and meter were installed by the previous owner to have electricity on the property (in the garage). Could I then use the existing distribution box/meter for the construction power? That way, I wouldn’t have to install or rent a temporary construction power box, right?
