Hello everyone, I am considering getting a custom-sized Kallax unit because the standard size does not fit my space well. My specific question is: Is it really worth buying a customized Kallax version? I especially want to know if the additional cost is justified in relation to the benefits—such as storage capacity, appearance, quality, and flexibility. Has anyone had practical experience with this? I would also appreciate information on delivery times and the durability of the custom units compared to the standard models. Thanks in advance for your insights!

The Kallax panels are cut precisely to size for custom orders, and the connectors may also be adjusted\In addition, the joining techniques are often standardized. Therefore, custom-made pieces sometimes involve compromises, such as the number of shelves or the width of the edges.
Furthermore, the logistical effort for custom orders is higher, which results in longer delivery times. You should take this into account in your planning to avoid suddenly being without a shelving unit.

You should keep this in mind during your planning so you don’t suddenly end up without a shelf.Exactly, the same happened to me! I only received my custom-made unit after almost 6 weeks, but for me that was perfectly fine 🙂 The wait was worth it because now I have a shelf that fits perfectly and exactly meets my needs. So if you are patient, the final result is great!
Thank you for your helpful answers so far.
I have one more question: Are there often stability issues with custom-made units when storing heavier books or objects? Since I am planning a closed shelving unit without a back panel for my living room, I am unsure whether custom-made Kallax shelves are robust enough for this purpose.
I look forward to your feedback, as this is a crucial criterion for me.

Are there often stability issues with custom-made units when storing heavier books or items? The stability largely depends on the design. For Kallax-type shelving, the rule is: the wider and taller the individual compartments, the more reinforcements are needed. With custom dimensions, this is often harder to ensure when deviating from standard sizes.
Tips:
- Check the material thickness and quality
- Specifically ask about reinforcements or additional support strips
- Consider the maximum load capacity per shelf or compartment; the seller should be able to provide this information
If these points are taken into account, the shelving should be able to handle heavy loads without any problems.
