Hello,

I was made aware of bird protection measures for our planned photovoltaic system. We have some pigeons in the area. Apparently, they tend to nest under photovoltaic panels?!

However, I haven’t really found much information about this so far. Does it make sense? Should we wait and see? What would it cost?

I look forward to any information and suggestions. Thank you.

As far as I know, pigeons do not build proper nests. At least not the pigeons in the city.

I haven’t heard of this happening under the panels before.

When building close to the ridge, birds often like to sit on the top edge of the panels and use them as a toilet. This happens quite often and is really unpleasant...

Do you have a flat roof? We were also offered a pigeon protection system for the gaps between the substructure and the collectors. However, this came from the most expensive of the four quotes we have so far. It felt like they charged extra for everything. We declined politely. The other three said that pigeons are not an issue.

Good morning, no, we have a hip roof.

That’s why I thought I would just ask if it is really necessary. Thank you very much for the answers so far.

So, the idea that pigeons do not nest under photovoltaic panels is unfortunately FALSE.
At our neighbors’ house (hip roof, photovoltaic system), pigeons do nest under the panels. In the first year, there was one pair with a nest. In the second year, there were already three pairs of pigeons, and currently, there are six pairs. Pigeons nest in colonies and tend to return. If nothing is done, the number will increase over the years.
