Bau-Teufel11 Jan 2013 17:46Hello again,
I recently heard that for some people (for example, for commercial spaces in the basement), it is important that the basement has a “habitable room height” of more than 2.50 meters (8 feet 2 inches).
This made me wonder if this “habitable room height” status has any other implications besides for someone who wants to run a business in the basement?
Possibly for property tax calculation or any other official matters, especially regarding ongoing costs or similar?
Many thanks in advance.

As far as I know, this has no impact. If you use your basement as a living space—that’s your choice. For commercial spaces, there are requirements regarding ceiling height, possibly toilets, etc. But what you do privately doesn’t really matter, right? We chose a height of 2.72 meters (9 feet)—why? Because it feels more spacious, offers more room for tall shelves, and was the same cost anyway 🙂 To my knowledge, property tax calculations are not related to basement height.
