ᐅ Is it practical to have a stove along with a ventilation and exhaust system?

Hello, we are building this summer, and we will have a ventilation and air exchange system installed (almost standard in new builds).

Now, my wife wants to have a stove in the living room (just for coziness).

Does this cause any issues, and what are the experiences?

I am unsure if this is advisable.

(If relevant: The living room has an open gable and is about 40-50 square meters (430-540 square feet) in size.)

"More nonsense"?
Sorry that you’ve already had to read so much rubbish today :-D

I like fireplaces, just to start with. I think they’re great when I’m freezing cold, I enjoy watching the fire, I like the crackling sound... I’m sure there are even more positive things.
But I don’t have a cleaning lady – and eventually it all needs to be cleaned.
I’m also against every private person polluting the air with even more CO2 (and depending on what else you put into the stove).
And I wouldn’t build a tight/well-insulated house with a ventilation system just to ruin it all with a fireplace.
All three of us are cold sleepers, so we’ll have to adapt significantly anyway, I already noticed this when we stayed overnight at my brother-in-law’s.
And a fireplace that really heats everything up with just one log?
Opening windows isn’t always an option depending on the weather – and do I want that?

Conclusion: For me, there are more reasons against it than in favor.
And maybe Puma’s wife just hasn’t thought it through beyond: fireplace = fire = wild romanticism.

That’s all the “nonsense” I wanted to say.
Thanks 😉

First, gain your own experience in a new build, then we can talk further.
Our controlled mechanical ventilation system works, our bedroom is not too warm, and the kids still make more mess than that thing. Always those aggressive bar-room arguments!
And please don’t call it a factual report if you haven’t experienced it yourself.

I don’t need to address any further premature “arguments.” The original poster has enough to read [emoji23] If they want, they can ask.

What kind of stove do you have?

A Luno model from Hase.

And regarding dirt: it is really negligible. We don’t have to clean any more or less because of it.

Heating with wood is actually a CO2-neutral alternative compared to all other methods of heat generation.
If the heat is effectively utilized, for example through heat exchangers, and not simply vented outside, that’s great.

I would not want to give up our log wood stove."

Hooray. The next war is on the horizon.
The wars are called controlled residential ventilation, or not. Stove or not. Gas and solar or controlled residential ventilation and PVI, ETICS (external thermal insulation composite system) or monolithic, KNX or TAE socket, .....

And Nordlys, always right in the middle of the battle, although unarmed, that used to be enough anyway 😉
