Hello,

It has been quite warm lately, causing our house to heat up significantly. My spontaneous idea was to get a split air conditioning system, so I wanted to find out how much these units typically cost.

During my research, I came across inverter air conditioners that can also provide heating and are said to save energy costs compared to oil heating systems.

Does anyone have experience with these? Is it true that heating with them really saves energy? Is there perhaps a possibility to receive some kind of funding or subsidies, for example through KfW programs?

Thank you all!

It’s a classic air-to-air heat pump – nowadays, that’s standard for all inverter split-system air conditioners.

The COP values aren’t that bad; it works well as a supplementary heating source (we had one in our rental), since it quickly provides a comfortable warmth (but that warmth also fades quickly, because air is a poor heat carrier).

It’s always funny how the warm days trigger a short climate boom every year – causing many people to reconsider their options.

Inverter or non-inverter, the technology inside is classic and decades old, well-tested and reliable.

Just buy a system you like and have it installed.

Thanks in advance!

Of course, people tend to focus more quickly on things that bother them.

The real question is rather: What do I like, how do I recognize if it is good, and most importantly, is the heating function worth it or cost-effective?

It probably won't be cost-effective – or how do you want to calculate that? Do you have an oil burner at home? Profitability is another matter – the function is usually included anyway. So, yeah...

Yes, I have a low-temperature oil heating system. Replacing it just isn’t worthwhile yet.

I simply don’t know much about air conditioning, so maybe my question was unfounded?
I thought there are regular air conditioners and inverter air conditioners, which also include a heating function. That’s how I understood it.
I read that inverter air conditioners produce heat more efficiently than oil burners. I assumed inverter air conditioners are more expensive than regular air conditioners and wanted to know if the extra effort is worth it, or if it makes more sense to just install a regular air conditioner.
