ᐅ Is a wooden beam ceiling strong enough to support heavy furniture?

Hello everyone, maybe I'm being a bit paranoid – a construction site does leave its marks.

However, we are currently in the process of ordering our furniture. Until now, I hadn’t really thought much about it, until I saw the weight of our wardrobe: a solid 450 kg (990 lbs). Adding clothes and everything else that will be stored inside, we’re probably looking at around 550 kg (1,210 lbs), spread over just 2.5 sqm (27 sq ft).

Then there’s the bed, which weighs about 150 kg (330 lbs), and with two people in it, that’s a total of around 300 kg (660 lbs). So, in our 15 sqm (160 sq ft) bedroom, we’re likely dealing with approximately 1 ton (2,200 lbs) of weight that the wooden beams need to support.

This makes me doubt the load-bearing capacity of our wooden beam ceiling. Although, I’m probably one of the first people who wouldn’t just place a regular wardrobe on the upper floor? Am I overreacting with my concern, or would it be wise to have a structural engineer take a look just to be safe?

It is a Pax wardrobe 1.60m x 2.60m (5.25 ft x 8.5 ft) corner unit – however, the weight did surprise me when ordering.

Particleboard is by no means significantly lighter than solid wood, but it is considerably more affordable.
A PAX carcass measuring 236cm x 100cm x 58cm (93 inches x 39 inches x 23 inches) weighs around 55kg (121 lbs), plus doors and shelves. This quickly adds up to about 100kg (220 lbs) per linear meter.

Maybe this is a comma error?

Drive to IKEA and try loading a cabinet carcass onto a cart by yourself. After that, you won’t believe it was just a typo, but you’ll need to see an orthopedic specialist...

PS:
Our sideboard in the living room, measuring 140cm x 180cm x 40cm (55 inches x 71 inches x 16 inches), weighs a good 200kg (440 lbs). And it’s not even solid wood 😉

It’s easy to be mistaken. We recently ordered a walk-in closet from IKEA and had it delivered. They’re just Ivar components.
Although it’s solid wood, unlike a typical wardrobe it’s more like a shelving system and not fully enclosed.
The shipping company groaned and said in the end they carried over 600 kilograms (1,320 lbs) into the house.

Just as a reference... 10 shelves measuring 100cm by 58cm (39 inches by 23 inches) weigh just under 70kg (154 lbs). One drawer 100cm (39 inches) wide weighs just under 10kg (22 lbs).
