Dear Sir or Madam,
my name is Luise Bergmann, and I am a student at the University of Applied Sciences Bremen.
I am studying Applied Leisure Science and am currently writing my Bachelor’s thesis on the topic of experiential shopping through neuromarketing. As a practical example, I chose IKEA because I have been a longtime fan and spent my semester abroad in Sweden.
To make my work a bit more interactive, here is my question for you: Is a visit to IKEA an experiential shopping trip for you, or not? If yes, what makes the visit an experience for you?
I would appreciate many constructive responses for my Bachelor’s thesis!
Cheers to IKEA!

Best regards, Luise 😀

Hello Luise,

For me, a visit to IKEA is always an experience because it’s simply fun to discover new things, and there are plenty of those on every visit. Since I first visited an IKEA store about 10 years ago, I have been truly impressed. Especially the modular systems, such as Pax, EXPEDIT, Galant, Besta, or Faktum, cannot be found in any other furniture store. Nowhere else are there so many furniture ranges that fit well together. These are the key unique selling points of IKEA for me.

Regarding quality: You can say what you want, and the saying “you get what you pay for” still applies, but in terms of value for money, IKEA furniture is simply unbeatable, and one should not forget that these are designer pieces. The only difference between “real” designer furniture (assuming the same materials are used, which is a prerequisite for this comparison), as you would typically imagine it, and IKEA furniture is the volume sold.

However, I believe it’s not just the furniture and creative ideas, but also the connection to Sweden, a country many people love for its beautiful nature. Trees grow in nature, and furniture comes from trees, and when—as IKEA says—this is done sustainably, it completes the circle. A character trait often attributed to Sweden is directness, clarity, and honesty, and IKEA simply conveys these qualities.

For me, IKEA is inspiring every time because so many good ideas are shown, from which new ideas and products can emerge through one’s own creativity. This can even lead to starting your own business focused on IKEA furniture, just as it has in my case 🙂

I wish you all the best in your work and great success.

Best regards,
Oliver

Many thanks for your message and the effort you put into it.
I have been waiting for such detailed answers and really appreciated it.
IKEA inspired me as well, especially after spending my semester abroad in Kalmar (Southern Sweden).
So once again, thank you very much for your response and I wish you great success with your business 😀
