ᐅ Are external blinds necessary on the east side?

Actually, the question can be asked more generally: On which sides do external blinds really make sense if privacy is not an issue and it is only about sun protection?

Or is it better not to differentiate, and should external blinds be installed everywhere if you are already installing them on the south and west sides? For us, the south and west sides are definitely decided on — so with external blinds.

The optimum is controllable. A permanent roof overhang, however, is not. Depending on the construction type, it has the advantage of being "already there," but that’s about it.

An affordable and effective shading solution – and sometimes very attractive as well – are window shutters. These are available not only with pivot hinges but also as sliding panels, even optionally electric. It doesn’t always have to be roller shutters.

I agree with that, but the optimum is often not affordable.
I meant more to decide individually for each element between roller shutters, venetian blinds, shutters, sliding shutters, awnings, and so on, or combinations of these, rather than just using venetian blinds everywhere—not picking the options from a menu.

Best solution for south/west-facing sides: patio roofs with an awning ideally covering the entire window front... When the sun is out, just extend the awning and enjoy knowing you can keep all the blinds (or venetian blinds) fully open. Great view, no direct sunlight on the window panes, yet still bright and flexible!

East side: I admit, I would always go for it as a default. Whether venetian blinds or roller blinds is a matter of personal preference... Just to avoid regretting it later... In the worst case, the roller blind will just never be pulled down...

I wonder what the difference in solar radiation between west and east exposure is (excluding local buildings, trees, or similar factors, of course). It seems to come from the same angle and therefore with the same intensity from both directions. If anything, it might be stronger in the morning because the air is cleaner.

There is no difference. In the eastern regions, many houses have smaller windows due to the floor plan, so it might be better to skip external shading there. Also, it feels like the western sun is warmer once the house has heated up over the course of the day.
