Hello.
Our builder told us that a TAE socket is no longer required. Modern routers like the FritzBox should be connected differently to get Internet access. As I understand it, a Cat cable is connected directly to the telephone main line, which then goes into the router (FritzBox works)... Could you please clarify what he means by this and if it is really the case?
Thank you.

That’s exactly the point—he wants to be the electrician himself.

Oh? But if he doesn’t know that and is asking here, then he obviously can’t.

If we provide him with good, helpful answers, maybe he will be able to do it afterward?

I just checked the first post again: If the builder connects the two cables coming from the telecommunications provider to the correct pins of a standard network socket, then a FritzBox can be connected to that socket using a regular network cable.

However, I don’t think this is the usual procedure. The socket should be clearly labeled. Also, it would need to be verified whether the pin assignments are the same for every modem manufacturer.

Well, DSL only uses two wires. You can easily connect the router directly to the main distribution frame using a telephone cable with a network connector attached. So why bother installing that unnecessary outlet nowadays?
