Hello.
Our builder told us that a TAE socket is no longer required. Modern routers like the FritzBox should be connected differently to get Internet access. As I understand it, a Cat cable is connected directly to the telephone main line, which then goes into the router (FritzBox works)... Could you please clarify what he means by this and if it is really the case?
Thank you.

The telecom company will install a TAE connection in your basement. The Fritz Box comes with a TAE-to-LAN adapter, allowing you to connect the telephone line to any outlet in the house. Have network cabling installed throughout the house, or at least empty conduits, to keep the FritzBox placement flexible (for Wi-Fi reception!). However, TAE outlets have not been installed in houses for a long time.

He is right. Our TAE sockets are completely useless.

It depends on the type of internet connection you will have. Cable? DSL? FTTH (Fiber to the Home)? Plan the LAN wiring accordingly. For example, next to the FTTH modem, there should be an Ethernet outlet and a power outlet.

Objection. It doesn’t matter. We wired a new office building with standard DSL connectivity. Only network outlets for the PCs, one central Fritzbox where all phones (Gigaset) are directly registered. Internet via Wi-Fi, LAN; phone also runs over DSL.

That's correct. But with DSL, you still usually get a TAE socket, whereas with FTTH and cable, you do not.
