ᐅ Is a corner base cabinet better with IKEA Metod?

Hello
I want to install a base cabinet in my kitchen rotated so that it’s accessible from the front.
With Faktum, a 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet with a side panel is slightly wider than the depth of a 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet, as shown in the picture.

With Metod, I was surprised to find that the base cabinets are a bit deeper, and at least according to the kitchen planner, the width including the side panel and the depth are the same, see picture.

I assume that if the rotated base cabinet has a door and the hinge is on the side opposite the wall, then I don’t need a filler strip between the wall and the base cabinet, right?
I know we have to wait until Metod is available, but based on the planner at least, I should be able to place a rotated 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet exactly next to another 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet. Does anyone have any other concerns?
Best regards

However, since the total depth of Metod is slightly greater due to the hanging rail compared to Faktum, the Metod online planner might actually be correct. I assume it should be possible to screw the rotated upper cabinet onto the kitchen wall if it doesn’t have legs at the back.

I didn’t have a tape measure with me, but since some kitchens were mounted with an awkward gap at the tall cabinets (an IKEA pencil easily fit in with some clearance), I assume the cabinet body dimensions haven’t changed much, if at all.

If I had known, I would have documented all measurements, but as I said, I was just visiting as a tourist without planning to build a kitchen myself anytime soon.

Before more questions come up, the fronts are identical to Faktum, just with different dimensions, and of course, the names are different.

Hi,

The dimensions of the carcass (LxW) are the same as Faktum. Only the rail and the hooks for hanging add 1.5cm (0.6 inches). So you can leave out the rail and hooks and connect the cabinets to each other and to the wall.

Best regards

PS: Whether waiting for Metod is worth it is something you have to decide when you face it. In general, there are significant pros and cons for both Faktum and Metod.

The cabinet body dimensions (LxW) are identical to Faktum. Only the rail and hooks for hanging add 1.5cm (0.6 inches) in depth. So just leave out the rail and hooks and connect the cabinets to each other and to the wall directly.

In my case, the rail and hooks are actually an advantage. This way, the base cabinet extends 1.5cm (0.6 inches) further into the room, and if I add a 60cm (24 inches) base cabinet turned sideways, it might line up so that the side panel of the turned cabinet is flush with the front of the adjacent base cabinet. With Faktum, I would have used a 50cm (20 inches) cabinet with a filler strip in this position. With Metod, it might work to use a 60cm (24 inches) cabinet without a filler strip.

PS: You will have to decide for yourself if it’s worth waiting for Metod once you are faced with the choice. Overall, both Faktum and Metod have significant pros and cons.

I think I will need my kitchen starting in spring 2014. Assuming Metod is released in Austria and Slovakia around June 2014, I will probably only have to wait a few months. And I figure: it’s better to wait a little and have the option to change the fronts later. We’ll see how it turns out...

Sorry for revisiting this old thread, but this topic is currently relevant for me:
I want to install the base cabinet at the front right of my new Ikea kitchen rotated, so that its front faces forward as shown in the picture:

Has anyone done this before?
I think it should generally be possible because the dimensions seem to fit:
Overall depth of a base cabinet: 59cm (23 inches) cabinet body + 1cm (0.4 inches) wall rail + 1.9cm (0.75 inches) Bodbyn front = 61.9cm (24.4 inches)
Total width of the rotated base cabinet: 60cm (24 inches) cabinet body + 1.2cm (0.5 inches) side panel = 61.2cm (24.1 inches)
However, the rotated base cabinet would not be directly adjacent to a “normal” base cabinet in my setup but would be connected to the dishwasher by a 20cm (8 inches) filler strip! The dishwasher is located immediately next to the sink.
The 20cm (8 inches) filler strip is necessary to compensate for the depth of the Stenstorp cabinet.
My concerns:
- If the side panel of the rotated base cabinet and the dishwasher front are at the same height, the rotated base cabinet would have a 7mm (0.3 inches) gap from the wall. How can I cover this gap? Or is it not necessary?
- How do I “connect” the rotated base cabinet with the dishwasher? Essentially, I just need to extend the left side panel of the rotated base cabinet with another side panel about 20cm (8 inches) wide, but this second panel could only be attached either to the rotated base cabinet or to the countertop.

What is your opinion? Should this be feasible?
