Does anyone here use a multi-split system for heating, for example as an alternative in older buildings when insulation or renovation is no longer worthwhile?
I’m not familiar with the various split systems, but I’ve come across them often as an alternative to conventional heating when insulation and renovation hardly make sense anymore for the current residents.
I would have concerns about noise, drafts, and the resulting dust circulation since it is an air-to-air heat pump after all.
A photovoltaic system would at least be available for the transitional period from spring to autumn.

There is no insect screen for the skylight, and the sun is still shining on it at 7 p.m., which lets in additional heat. Okay. Then the skylight was planned incorrectly 😉. No, seriously, of course, there are situations where ventilation like that is not possible. It didn’t occur to me because I wouldn’t design rooms with only a skylight, at least not as living spaces, if there was any other option.

An open window doesn’t help much during tropical nights, aside from possible noise and humidity issues. I think humidity is often underestimated.
We built with air conditioning, have used it for 2 years now, and will do the same in house version 2.0.
We usually ventilate early in the morning when it’s still cool, but the time it stays cool enough in summer isn’t enough to bring the house to a comfortable temperature. And to maintain that temperature, you’d also have to heavily shade the entire living space every day. You can do that, but then you’d feel a bit like a hobbit.
To avoid using grid electricity for the AC, we have solar panels. When the sun is strong, we run the air conditioning, keeping the energy costs reasonable.
The system is now running.
The costs are around 11,700€ for the exterior and the indoor units.
Four acquaintances are now also getting quotes from installers because the system turned out really great, but the subsidies will be significantly reduced from August 14.
With the Panasonic system, I can schedule each room individually, which is really useful to save money.
Now I’m staying at a 4-star hotel and sweating at night. No air conditioning and windows open everywhere during the day. Not cool xD
Looking forward to the cool nights at home.
The Russians are flaring off our gas; you can see the flames as far as Finland. Really absurd!
At the same time, there’s a refund of over 100€ on electricity and lower advance payments thanks to the removal of the Renewable Energy Act.
Gas will be used as little as possible for now, since as a driver and employee, I’m already being squeezed enough by the government and social system.

The Russians are flaring off our gas, and the sea of flames can be seen all the way from Finland. Really ridiculous!
At the same time, today I received over €100 (about $108) back on my electricity bill and lower monthly payments thanks to the removal of the Renewable Energy Act fee.
Gas usage will be kept to a minimum for now. As a driver and employee, I already feel heavily taxed by the government and social system. Great, which model did you get for the outdoor and indoor units?
I want to equip six rooms with air conditioning: three bedrooms upstairs, one bedroom, the living room, and the kitchen downstairs.
The living room and bedroom on the north side of the house will have a two-zone multi-split, but I’m still undecided about the south side! Either a four-zone split or a three-zone for the two bedrooms upstairs, one downstairs, plus a single split for the kitchen.
I’m trying to minimize the piping and prefer to install the outdoor units closer to the ground. Otherwise, the service technician will need scaffolding or a lift every time for maintenance!
