ᐅ Is a sunshade awning on the south side sufficient for heat protection, or are shutters more effective?

HubiTrubi4026 Dec 2021 00:20Hello everyone,
We are planning to replace the roof windows in our newly purchased house (a total of 3, standard size 94x118cm (37x46 inches)), most likely with the PK08 model. One is on the north side (only an interior roller blind/plissé planned for privacy), and two are on the south side. Since I want to set up my office in the attic, I’m wondering whether I should go for roller shutters (are there third-party providers available?) or the sun protection awning instead. A friend mentioned that roller shutters tend to freeze more often in winter. However, they might offer better protection from heat. The awning apparently lets some light through, which could be an advantage for working during summer. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks and best regards,
Hubi

Not with the products you mentioned. In our rental apartment, we have Velux windows on the south side, and without external shading, it's impossible on sunny days. We hardly use internal shading; for us, it practically feels like one or the other.
And yes, in winter, we often feel cold because of them 🙄

Hi,
on the south side, we have the Velux heat protection roller blind installed on the outside instead of the electric blinds (which we actually forgot to include during construction ^^).
The heat protection blinds are great; they block a lot of heat while still allowing enough light through to use the office comfortably.
They are also significantly cheaper.
Looking back, I’m not sure if I would have preferred the blinds after all. We have often heard that they tend to freeze, but for us, it was already too late anyway. 🙂
