Hello,
can someone answer this for me? About 5 months after moving into our house, we had a water softening system installed (we initially wanted to try without one but quickly scheduled a retrofit appointment – water hardness 28°) – can I claim this on my tax return?

Yes. Definitely the labor costs.
We deducted the landscaping work carried out after moving in ourselves, and everything was approved. Work done after moving in is no longer part of the construction project.

I am unsure because I have often read about "preservation measures," but the tax return software only lists maintenance and repair work...

How high were the labor costs? Is it worth it at all?

Isn't it always worth it?!

Offsetting should work.

And are only the labor costs deductible? So, do I only report those as well?
